"In Memory" of David R. Bast 
David R. Bast, age 64, of Glen Carbon, died at 2:57 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 19,
2008, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was born on Aug. 2, 1944, in
Highland, the son of the late Philip and Harriet Hubach Bast. He married Deloris
L. Rice. She survives. Along with his wife, he is survived by step children:
Debbie Woodworth of Collinsville and Kenny Woodworth of Granite City;
granddaughter: Erin Groeteka of Glen Carbon; brothers: P.J. Bast of Granite
City, Dennis Bast of Granite City and Dean Bast of Granite City; a sister: Mary
Elena Niederkorn of Granite City; sister-in-law: Jan Bast of Granite City; and
many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by
brothers: Dan, Steve, Kenny and infant Joseph; and a nephew Chris Bast. He was
veteran of the U.S. Navy during Vietnam era, and served on the USS LaSalle. He
was a plank holder on the USS LaSalle. His memberships include the Glen Carbon
and Edwardsville American Legion, the Edwardsville Masonic Lodge No. 99 (Past
Most Worshipful Master twice), Shriner, Scottish Rite and the Edwardsville
Moose. He was an Operations Engineer at SIUE for 20 years. He retired in 2005.
He also owned and operated the Judy Inn for 20 years with his wife. They sold
the family business in 2004. Visitation will be at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Monday,
Dec. 22, 2008, at Saksa Mateer Funeral Home in Edwardsville. Funeral services,
including a Masonic service, will be at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the
funeral home. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children. Saksa Mateer
Funeral Home in Edwardsville is in charge of arrangements.
